Facts about Botox Cosmetic:

What is Botox Cosmetic and How Does it Work? Botox Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into the muscles to temporarily treat moderate to severe frown lines between the brows of adults 18 to 65 years of age. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes those lines to form between the brows.

Years of squinting, concentrating, or frowning can cause your skin to furrow and crease. As time passes, your skin becomes less elastic and those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows remain...even when your muscles arent contracting. The moderate to severe frown lines between your brows that form are often referred to as your 1's and may make you look angry and unapproachable.

Botox Cosmetic can give you real, noticeable results whether you have one moderate to severe frown line between the brows (1's) or two (11's), or even three (111's). Talk to your doctor today to find out if Botox Cosmetic is right for you.

Do not take Botox Cosmetic if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Botox Cosmetic (see Medication Guide for ingredients), had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin products such as Myobloc, Dysport, or Xeomin or have a skin infection at the injection site.

Although the results are visible, a treatment with Botox Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you've "had work done." The muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between the brows.

How Quickly Will I See A Difference? Within 24 to 48 hours you may notice a softening in the appearance of your moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. The area may continue to improve for up to a month.

How Long Can I Expect My Results To Last? Results have been shown to last up to 4 months. Your own results may vary --be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about what you can expect and when to schedule your next appointment.

Your doctor should be informed of all your medical conditions. If you have a disease that affects your muscles and nerves, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease), myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, you may be at increased risk of serious side effects, including severe dysohagia (difficulty swallowing) and respiratory compromise (difficulty breathing) from typical doses of Botox Cosmetic. Also tell your doctor about all your medical conditions, including if you have had, or plan to have surgery on your face or otherwise, weakness of forehead muscles, such as trouble raising your eyebrows, drooping eyelids, or any other abnormal facial change. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or about to become pregnant (it is not known if Botox Cosmetic can harm your unborn baby), or if you are breast-feeding. (It is not known if Botox Cosmetic passes into breast milk.) Finally, tell your doctor about any and all prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products you may be taking.

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, your physician may numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Many people are in and out of the physician's office without downtime following Botox Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) treatment.

Although prices may vary depending on location, here at Advanced Aesthetics I charge a flat rate of $11.00 a unit for Botox Cosmetic.

Will A Treatment With Botox Cosmetic Affect My Skin Color? Men and women of varying ethnicities and skin types have been successfully treated with Botox Cosmetic. Because it works only on the underlying muscles, there's no concern of it affecting your skin color or texture.

In my Experience I have never seen a sensitivity or an allergic reaction from Botox Cosmetic however although the package insert suggests that some do experience these things.

What is JUVÉDERM® ? JUVÉDERM® is the only HA filler FDA approved* to last up to one year. Ask your physician how you can get long-lasting results with JUVÉDERM®. JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel is a smooth consistency gel dermal filler that helps to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds like your "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds) —the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). JUVÉDERM® XC comes in two formulations—JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC.

JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face.

What is JUVÉDERM® XC indicated for? JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC injectable gels are indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, aka smile lines or parentheses)

JUVÉDERM® XC is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved* to last up to 1 year after initial treatment. Our unique manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also works to create a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel. All other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels. And, JUVÉDERM® is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in persons of color.

"Uncross-linked" hyaluronic acid in its natural form is in a liquid state. "Cross-linking" is the process through which hyaluronic acid is made into a gel product that can be injected into the skin for long-lasting results.

How is JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel used in treatment? Your healthcare provider eases JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill in and augment the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as "smile lines" or "parentheses"(nasolabial folds) and "marionette lines" (oral commissures). JUVÉDERM® XC temporarily adds volume to the skin and may give the appearance of a smoother surface.

What will treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel accomplish? JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel will help to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. And one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to 1 year. Ask your doctor what you should expect from your initial treatment and when they would recommend rescheduling another appointment Is treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel painful? Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The smooth consistency gel of JUVÉDERM® XC allows your doctor to administer it easily and smoothly. And, JUVÉDERM® XC is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Additionally, JUVÉDERM® XC is formulated with lidocaine for a more comfortable treatment experience. Your doctor may choose to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area to further minimize discomfort. How long does treatment usually take? The injection process generally takes only a few minutes however allow about 15 minutes for entire appointment. If this is your 1st time, expect 30 minutes so we can thoroughly consult before treatment.

No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal corrections.

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection.

Can people with different skin tones/colors be treated with JUVÉDERM®? Yes. In fact, JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with JUVÉDERM® showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.
